Consultant Endocrine and Breast Surgeon
Mark Lansdown is a Consultant Endocrine and Breast Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Mark Lansdown has worked as a Consultant General Surgeon in Leeds since 1994 and has just finished a 2-year term as President of the British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons (BAETS). He has contributed to development of guidelines and setting standards in endocrine surgery both locally and nationally.
The ‘hub and spoke’ approach, based on a centralised MDT, that he developed to manage thyroid cancer in West Yorkshire led to much improved outcomes in the region. In the past he has had significant roles in postgraduate education through the Leeds Deanery and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He was a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee in General Surgery for 5 years. He has been a Clinical Coordinator for the National Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD) and is presently the ASGBI representative on the NCEPOD steering group. He is a Trustee of BAETS and the patient-support group the British Thyroid Foundation.
Consultant in Diabetes and Internal Medicine
Dr Jean MacLeod is a Consultant in Diabetes and Internal Medicine in the University Hospitals of North Tees and Hartlepool. She has a long commitment to patient safety contributing to local and national guideline development, promoting insulin safety through the RISK initiative and encouraging learning from mortality reviews. NICE Guidelines Update Committee Her work has been recognised by SaferCare North East in the Drug Safety category and Quality in Care Diabetes Award. She has a long term regional commitment to speciality training, especially for trainees in difficulty, sitting on the HENE Speciality Training Committee for Diabetes and Endocrinology.
She has experience in service improvement and transformation having led large system change while Clinical Director in Medicine and continues to develop service assessment methods through her work with Finance colleagues using PLICs. Shortlisted for the HFMA Clinician of the year award she continues to advance links between finance teams and clinicians in service improvement. With the NE Clinical Senate and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh she is engaged in service reviews and has acted as external reviewer in mortality reviews.
Now Director of Quality, Research and Standards for RCPE she is linked to Health Innovation Manchester, following the launch of RCPE Manchester, and to the Scottish Academies Prevention through Learning initiative. She is a member of the Panel of Expert Advisers for the NICE Centre for Guidelines, the Northern England Clinical Senate Council and the HFMA Costing for Value Institute Council.
Consultant Neurosurgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
Nick is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He has worked in Leeds since 1997 and was Clinical Director for seven years.
His clinical interests are in endoscopic skull base surgery and radiosurgery, and he has contributed to national policy in radiosurgery. He is interested in quality improvement and outcomes, and the reporting of outcomes, and has published in this field.
A council member of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Society of British Neurosurgeons, Nick is also the lead for the National Neurosurgical Audit Programme and a member of the Invited Review Mechanism of the Royal College of Surgeons. He is the Expert Working Group (EWG) member for the Neurosurgery Casemix service of NHS Digital and Neurosurgery Advisor to HRG Development.
Nick studied Neurochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of London before gaining a MBChB from the University of Edinburgh. He has the old style FRCS and the intercollegiate exam in Surgical Neurology (FRCS(SN)).
