A range of new resources for teams working to provide ear, nose and throat surgery is now available from the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) team.
The guidance, pathways and case studies are designed to support improvements in the specialty, offering clinical insight and examples of best practice for teams to emulate.
Available now are:
Transforming Ear, Nose and Throat Outpatient Services: A practical guide to delivery
Developed by GIRFT and the Outpatient Recovery and Transformation Programme (OPRT), and supported by ENT UK, this delivery guide supports all those with a role in delivering outpatient transformation in Ear Nose and Throat (ENT).
It describes how outpatient care is developing in the face of escalating demand, changes in clinical practice and the introduction of new technologies, and enables users to evaluate their own service alongside outpatient transformation initiatives. It also provides practical advice, with observations and examples that may help units develop their quality improvement through outpatient transformation.
Expanding Day Case Surgery in Ear Nose and Throat Services
Co-badged with ENT UK and the British Association of Day Surgery, this guide supports clinicians, organisations and systems aiming to increase their day case surgery rates to ensure efficiency. In line with recommendations in the GIRFT national report for ENT (2019), it presents examples of how ENT departments can transform their services to provide more day case surgery, including guidance on patient eligibility and safety, the challenges faced, and examples of ENT procedures carried out as day case.
