GIRFT has developed a new practical toolkit designed to help trusts and systems embed the GIRFT methodology as part of business as usual.
Guidance, a checklist and good practice from trusts across England are all included in the new toolkit to help NHS colleagues – from executive leaders to operational managers –identify whether they are getting the most from GIRFT and to set up the right governance structure to ensure they are.
The guide is aimed primarily at:
- Executive leadership with responsibility for quality of care and operational delivery across the trust
- Lead clinicians (such as Medical Directors or GIRFT champions) with oversight for the implementation of GIRFT recommendations
- Specialty clinical leads and multidisciplinary teams with responsibility for the implementation of local GIRFT recommendations
- Operational managers, transformation leads and service improvement teams with a role in delivery services
- Teams involved in cross-cutting areas e.g. litigation and clinical governance, procurement and clinical coding
It offers a step-by-step guide to creating a trust-level GIRFT team, preparing for and responding to peer reviews and system-level meetings, and reporting upwards from department/division through to quality/clinical governance committees and up to the board. A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is also included, describing what is required in more detail.
“The case studies in this toolkit demonstrate very clearly how the GIRFT methodology can be used to help reduce waiting times, enhance clinical outcomes, improve patient satisfaction, and make more efficient use of resources. I would ask colleagues in every trust and system to read it and share it widely, then use the resources to make sure they are getting the most out of the GIRFT programme and all we have to offer.”
