Spotlight on… GIRFT and Outpatient Recovery and Transformation Outpatient guidance

Our range of joint resources developed with the NHS England Outpatient Recovery and Transformation programme are designed to highlight actions services can take to tackle escalating demand for outpatient appointments.
The guidance, aimed at clinicians and operational teams looking to drive quality improvement in outpatient provision, pulls together concise summaries of condition-specific advice for 17 specialties, as well as offering support on common themes and challenges such as remote consultation, reducing DNAs, and driving patient-initiated follow-up (PIFU).
The range comprises a full guide containing advice for all specialties and co-badged by more than 20 professional societies, as well as individual guidance for each of the 17 specialties: cardiology, dermatology, diabetes, ENT, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, geriatric medicine, gynaecology, neurology, ophthalmology, oral maxillofacial surgery, orthopaedics, respiratory and sleep medicine, rheumatology, spinal surgery and urology.
There is also a supplementary checklist to be used in conjunction with the main guidance, supporting operational teams to identify gaps and opportunities across non-admitted pathways for all outpatient services.
GIRFT has produced four webinars to support the guidance, with speakers addressing issues for the surgical, medical, trainee and SAS workforces. The recordings are on FutureNHS.
A guide to transforming ENT outpatient services is also due to be shared.
