Outpatient guidance for diabetes, respiratory medicine and geriatric medicine now added to advice pack

Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) and the Outpatient Recovery and Transformation (OPRT) programme have now added three more specialties to their range of guidance highlighting actions services can take to tackle escalating demand for outpatient appointments.

Guidance for diabetes, respiratory and sleep medicine, and geriatric medicine can now be downloaded, each pulling together a summary of available advice aiming to reduce long waits for appointments and improve patient care.

The three additional specialties are also now included in an updated version of the GIRFT/OPRT Clinically-led specialty outpatient guidance, which was shared in November 2022 to focus on the surgical and medical specialties with the highest number of +78 week waits. It also offers support on common themes and challenges in outpatient services, such as remote consultation, reducing DNAs, and implementing patient initiated follow-up (PIFU).

The 15 specialties now covered are cardiology, dermatology, diabetes, ENT, gastroenterology, general surgery, geriatric medicine, gynaecology, neurology, ophthalmology, oral maxillofacial surgery, orthopaedics, respiratory/sleep medicine, spinal surgery and spinal pain, and urology.

Three GIRFT webinars have been held recently for clinicians and operational teams looking to drive quality improvement within outpatient provision. Recordings are available by clicking below.
