Seeking a senior emergency or acute physician in the North East to join our GIRFT UEC Further Faster team

GIRFT is engaged in a dynamic programme of work through the GIRFT UEC Further Faster programme, actively supporting NHS trusts across England via a growing network of clinical experts and improvement professionals.

As part of this work, we are now seeking an additional senior emergency or acute physician with practical experience of delivering improvement and change within the UEC pathway to join the team.

We are currently prioritising expressions of interest from physicians based in the North East of England for a short-term role running from January to March 2026.

The Associate will work alongside the GIRFT UEC clinical and operational leads, contributing to hands-on projects as part of a collaborative national network. The role is highly flexible, requiring two PAs per week through an MOU with your current NHS trust.

The successful applicant will work within a small team, engaging with a specific provider in the North East, with either on-site or virtual work as appropriate. While the work will be largely autonomous, full support will be provided by the wider programme team.

The Associate role will focus on improving patient experience by:

  • Enhancing 4-hour emergency department performance

With a broader impact on
:

  • Category 2 ambulance response times
  • Reducing 12-hour ED waits
  • Shortening length of stay to improve patient flow

The GIRFT UEC Further Faster programme builds on the principles of our successful elective care work, bringing together hospital clinicians and operational teams to go ‘further and faster’ in transforming patient pathways, now applied to improving Urgent and Emergency Care.
