Calling clinical experts and operational colleagues to offer hands-on support in our team of GIRFT Further Faster UEC Associates

GIRFT is creating a dynamic network of clinical experts and improvement professionals as we work to expand our on-the-ground support to NHS trusts through the new GIRFT Further Faster Urgent and Emergency Care programme.

We are now looking for colleagues from across England with practical experience of delivering improvement and change within the UEC pathway, to become GIRFT Further Faster UEC Associates. The roles required include medical, operational, nursing and AHP colleagues working in emergency medicine, acute medicine, geriatric medicine, medical specialties and UEC within Integrated Care Boards.

The call for Associates follows the recent call for a GIRFT national clinical lead for the Further Faster UEC programme (deadline 4th July 2025). Associates will work alongside the appointed clinical lead(s) and our operational leads, contributing to hands-on projects as part of a dynamic network.

 The Associate roles will focus on supporting patient experience by:

  • improving Category 2 ambulance response times;
  • enhancing 4-hour emergency department performance;
  • reducing 12-hour ED waits;
  • shortening length of stay to improve patient flow.

The roles are designed to be highly flexible, involving just a few days per week through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with your current employer. Those appointed will work closely with a small team, engaging with specific providers, and will undertake site visits to trusts across England (travel expenses covered).

To express your interest, send a covering letter explaining your motivation for the role, highlighting your relevant UEC experience and leadership skills. Include why you’re passionate about contributing to this initiative and how your expertise aligns with the programme’s aims.

To apply, contact england.girftuec@nhs.net by Friday, 11th July 2025.

The new GIRFT Further Faster UEC programme is adopting the principles of our successful Further Faster work in bringing together hospital clinicians and operational teams to collectively go ‘further and faster’ in transforming patient pathways, and applying those principles to improving Urgent and Emergency Care.
