Two of GIRFT’s key data tools – supporting elective recovery for children and young people (CYP) and improvement in the emergency department (ED) – have been shortlisted for prestigious awards in the upcoming HSJ Partnership Awards.
GIRFT and data analytics supplier Edge Health are jointly nominated for their work on developing and delivering both the Summary Paediatric Indicator Table (SPaedIT) and the Summary Emergency Department Indicator Table (SEDIT).
GIRFT is also nominated for its role in the Royal College of Physicians’ GLASS programme, which offers stroke specific development to build leadership in integrated service delivery networks (ISDNs).
The HSJ Partnership Awards showcase innovative solutions which demonstrate a commitment to the core values and high standards that steer the NHS and are judged by senior NHS figures. The final awards ceremony will take place in March 2025.
Summary Paediatric Indicator Table (SPaedIT)
The SPaedIT is shortlisted in the ‘Data integration project of the year’ category. The tool, launched in 2023, brings together provider-level data summarising demand, capacity, flow and outcomes all in one easily accessible dashboard.
Refreshed monthly, the data is available across key paediatric surgical specialties and metrics, supporting frontline NHS colleagues in the 180 providers treating children in England (specialist centres and DGHs), as well as policy makers and commissioners.
Developed by GIRFT and NHS England’s CYP Transformation team, the SPaedIT enables clinicians and managers to evaluate their performance, understand where they can improve and target the causes accordingly.
Summary Emergency Department Indicator Table (SEDIT)
The SEDIT – nominated in the ‘Best contribution to the improvement of Urgent and Emergency Care’ category – was GIRFT’s first data dashboard, offering an easy-to-use, online depository of emergency medicine data.
Updated monthly and is available to all NHS colleagues, the SEDIT offers the most up-to-date data available for each of the 170+ Type 1 EDs in England – usually no more than seven weeks old – enabling clinicians and managers to evaluate their ED’s current demand, capacity, flow and outcomes, to understand why problems are occurring, and to target the root causes.
50+ metrics in the SEDIT are displayed intuitively as ranges, charts and rankings, with colour-coded quartiles for straight-forward comparison, enabling teams to compare and benchmark their data with all other EDs in England.
Royal College of Physicians’ GLASS (GIRFT Leadership Academy Stroke Specific) programme
The RCP’s GLASS programme is shortlisted for the ‘Best educational programme for the NHS’ award. It offers a bespoke multi-professional stroke specific leadership development programme for up to 30 people a year that builds leadership capacity within ISDNs, which in turn collaborate with integrated delivery boards (ICBs), delivered over four two-day in-person sessions to encourage networking.
